ACT, SAT and Other Testing Information

ACT, SAT and Other Testing Information

Students who plan to go directly to a 4-year college after high school are encouraged to take the ACT or the SAT.  These tests are an important part of the college admissions process. Colleges use the scores in making admissions and scholarship decisions.  The scores are also used for class placement.  Most AHS college bound students take the ACT test 2-3 times, beginning sometime their junior year.  Students should contact the guidance counselors for advice on when to begin taking the ACT.

All colleges accept ACT scores.  Some highly selective colleges tend to prefer students take the SAT, too.  The counselors strongly encourage you to send your ACT scores to at least 4 college choices.  This includes the NCAA (9999) or NAIA (9876) Eligibility Centers if you are playing sports in college.  You will have to pay over $10 a piece to send them later!!

Abilene High School's Code for the ACT and the SAT is 170005.  If you want to take the ACT at Abilene High School, use 226560 as the test center code.

Students planning on attending a community college or trade school right after high are not required to take the ACT or SAT but are encouraged to since some scholarships are based on ACT scores.  Please check the community college or trade school's website for more information on scholarships

The PSAT helps educators at every level promote college readiness.  It is a standardized test cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
