Track season is underway and the Abilene Cowboys and Cowgirls have been showing off all they have to give. Recently they traveled to a highly competitive Smoky Valley meet and are hosting their home meet on Friday, April 22nd. The track team carries great athletes. Finishing in the top 4 in their respective areas last week were Allie Cross, Renatta Heintz, Lucas DeDonder, Grant Waite, and Dawson Surritte.
Cross previously ran a 1:02.46 400M while also jumping 37’ 3.75” in the triple jump. Both gave her a 2nd place finish.
“In practice, I try to be a good role model for the underclassmen and just show them what it looks like to word hard,” Cross said.
Heintz, only being a freshman, placed 4th in the 200M while putting up a time of 28.59. For the guys, DeDonder ran a 23.11 200M placing first. Waite ran a 2:05.95 800M which gave him 4th. As for Surritte, he threw the shot 41’ 4.5”.
On Friday, Abilene hosts their home meet which consists of twelve teams;
Abilene, Chapman, Clay Canter, El Dorado, Flint Hills Christian, Hays, Marysville, McPherson, Royal Valley, Sacred Heart, Southeast of Saline, and Wamego.
Watch out for new personal records, seasonal records, and maybe even school records. Most importantly get out there and support our athletes as they compete at their highest level and represent our school.
